Christine Prescott came to Ireland from rural Australia in 2007. Her artwork is intrinsically ephemeral both materially and conceptually, and has been exhibited since the late 1990s. She has a compulsion to use repetitious, meditative processes to accentuate the subtle qualities of her chosen materials. Dehydrated fruits and botanicals, wine, bone, hair and wood form her sculptural assemblages and works on paper. The arid landscape of Christine’s past is deeply evident in these emotionally embodied works, with notions of time, healing, decay, and the spirit of place imbuing a distinct aesthetic. The work facilitates an intimate connection with our shared ecology and effectuates an experience for the viewer that is both quietening and intriguingly rousing.

As a current studio resident at the Custom House Christine’s work was most recently included in the Lionir and InHouse group exhibitions. She was selected for the international drawing exhibition Here, the Considered Line at Interface Lough Inagh; Meant To Fade at Automat Artspace in Saarbrucken, Germany; and Notions: Home, Place and Speculations at The People’s Museum in Limerick. She also recently received an Agility Award from the Arts Council of Ireland and an Arts Bursary from the Mayo County Council Arts Service.

Her nature-based collaboration with the Carrowbeg Artist Group was funded by an Upstart award from the Mayo County Council Arts Service. The success of this project resulted in the exhibition So Nice Day which was shown at the Custom House in 2024 and will be travelling to the Courthouse Gallery in County Clare this September.
